Goodbye to my England, So long my old friend
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected.. Staff do as they're told
They must not teach children about England of old.

Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them anymore
How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away, over the sea
We're the English from England, let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud!


Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

For every one thing to be proud of about your country, it's done 100 things to be ashamed of.

Not just england or scotland, pretty much all countries.

Nationalism/patriotism is stupid, IMO.

under king richard III during the crusades, he ordered the raping and pilaging of men, women, child, nuns, priests, monks all under the flag of Christianity and country.

But I am not a Britain. I was born in England, raised in England, thus so I am English.

Sure, but why be so proud about it?

Did I say I was proud of that? no. I am just proud to be English. I do not do any religion. I am just a person who believes in charity begins at home. I have no beliefs except the theory of evolution. Which makes me very anti religion in that respect.

Nothing wrong with seeing the good in your country!
People dwell on the bad things.

England has done a lot of good for the world as well as bad!

I enjoy being Scottish, there's plenty of things about Scotland that make me happy but so many more than make me ashamed. I suppose most countries have good points and bad points. Got to be careful to draw a distinction between not dwelling on the past and erasing past and current indiscretions (that's putting it mildly)

IMO the good that England (and by extension the British Empire) did for the world was in no way altruistic. Very very self serving in fact. But that's the way of the world I s'pose.
