As I was just screwing up the "What music is on yer head" topic, thought of another pointless discussion I would like to conduct;
Modern singers can't sing and therefor suck donkeyballs!
The facts:
1. Pretty much every singer in pop-music uses Autotune, because they can't make pitch-perfect notes themselves 2. You don't need a nice voice to sing well; thinking of Bob Dylan or Mick Jagger as very clear examples
I might be a nitpicker, I can imagine lots of people don't give a damn wether an artist can perform, just like for some people a car is only a mean of transport to get from A to B. My taste for music is very broad, Ive played guitar myself and I have learnt to appreciate all kinds of performing. But! In my opinion an artist should be performing him/herself, and not the producers who finish up their shit.
So: in my opinion: I'd rather listen to someone singing crap but authentic, then listen to someones voice after being processed for a couple of months by some pimply dudes with glasses on looking at a computer screen.

Well i agree with Sam on this one. People just have their own taste of things. Especially for Music.
There are those like Pierre, that love Heavy Metal. Then there are those Hoppers. Ravers and so on.
Music is a huge Word.
I for myself like pretty much every kind of Music. It's just that i don't like every song. I currently love Dubstep, most people saying it sux, but that is up to your taste. I love fast songs, Dubstep and Drum&Bass is pretty much what i like. I am also into Hardstyle. But i love also Bands like, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Drowning Pool, Bullet 4 My Valentine and many more. Ow and i am a huge Fan of Nickelback. Chad Kroeger's Voice is sick.
I was once into Heavy Metal but got away from it pretty fast again, i love the Sound of a Guitar/E-Guitar. But i prefer it if you can actually understand what the Singer is singing. Children of Bodom for example is to Heavy.

I do like some autotune music, I know not all autotune stuff is bad. But, In General, I consider music to be art, some people are just not cut out for it (including myself). I dont think they ought to be ranked #1 in the sales for something which is the result of endless finetuning, instead of the skill and passion of the artist.
My taste in music: rock (including new&old, hard rock, ballads, rock&roll), house (except hardcore n speedcore stuff, including dubstep, trance, hardstyle, turntablism, minimalism, techno), classical, latin-jazz, folk, punk.
In all cases: music carries passion, shouldnt be in it for the bucks.

an auto tune instrument could be likened to an electric guitar. Ya sing the song and add some sounds to it. With either someone who can play a piano, guitar, drums, keyboard or use a computer. After all some great musicians can't sing. And some great singers can't play music. Some pop tunes do have catchy feel good melodies. And thats what they aim to do.

I think with auto tuning you're referring to the trend started by T-pain? Because a lot of artists use it just to subtly make their music a bit better, a pitch perfect voice is very rare. You can also use auto tune in a creative way, btw. Also some house music like techno/trance/hardstyle/dubstep can't exist without producers I do agree with you on that you don't need a smooth singing voice to sing well ^^ ( that doesn't mean you can just scream and call it singing, like in heavy metal xD)

auto tune cant be seen in any way as an instrument. A voice should be seen as an instrument like a guitar; both need tuning, both need loads of practise before perfect.
I dont know who started the trend, but I think Timbaland adds it to all his songs with "the best of us, the best of us" as some sort of signature. That's fun. Using autotune for "normal" singing is bad.
