i back up every now and again but just docs, backing up the os is a waste of time imo.
i also do a full scan once a week including the external drives. thats the only time i connect the drives, to scan and manually back up.
Sam, you've been lucky. i had to find out the hard way, i lost all my business accounts and tax work.

i also find that over the period of a few months (or 6) a lot of shit i DL isn't worth backing up. I tend so save my own pics, vids, music and now business files to an 8 Gig micro SD (from my nokia) just incase my PC dies, but other than that, i reacon it's better to do a full re-install every year or so and get rid of all my unwanted/unused stuff that i dl over time, then just put my pics/music/docs back on. And hey presto a brand new uber fast PC without all the add-ons i DL, hence it takes me about a day to get it back uptodate once i reformat pc

try updating yer bios drivers ? re-install all yer drivers ?
